The first two of 45 vessels scheduled to visit Boston for a five-day Tall Ships event have arrived.

The Libertad, a 356-foot ship from Argentina, and the 270-foot Mircea from Romania docked Tuesday morning. The largest ship in the fleet, the 376-foot Kruzenshtern of Russia, was also scheduled to arrive Tuesday.

Organizers say 12 of the sailing vessels will be open for public tours Thursday through Sunday at Charlestown Navy Yard, the Boston Fish Pier and Seaport World Trade Center. Other ships plan to dock privately.

The 45 ships, participating in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge, come from 17 different countries and will leave for Halifax, Nova Scotia, after their time in Boston.
