Elderly Driver Charged In Fatal Accident Involving 7-Year-Old Boy

Police have charged a 76-year-old Massachusetts woman with motor vehicle homicide in the death of a 7-year-old boy who was hit by a car while riding a bicycle with his father in a marked crosswalk in Halifax.

Marcia Chadbourne of Plympton was also charged with failure to yield at a crosswalk, after Saturday morning's accident on Plymouth Street.

Police say it doesn't appear Chadbourne was speeding in the 35-mile-per-hour zone, and there's no evidence that alcohol or other factors were issues. They say it looks like Chadbourne just didn't see Herbert Whitaker and his father, who wasn't hurt. The boy died shortly after the accident.

Chadbourne did not answer phone calls to her home.

Massachusetts has had four deadly accidents involving elderly drivers this summer.
