Boston Doctor Among Dozens Arrested In Medicare Fraud Bust

A Boston doctor is among the nearly three dozen people arrested Wednesday in a nationwide Medicare fraud bust.

The suspects are accused of billing for products that weren't medically necessary and in many cases weren't delivered to patients.

Justice Department spokeswoman Laura Sweeney said the Boston suspect, Dr. John Nasky Okonkwo, faces five criminal counts in all. "He was indicted for allegedly submitting approximately $2.2 million in false claims to Medicare," Sweeney said.

Some 200 federal agents worked on the bust, which also led to arrests in Houston, New York and Louisiana.
