It's not a surprising endorsement, but it does put a big national gun in Congressman Michael Capuano's camp. U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said she is behind Capuano because he has a “proven record of standing up for progressive values and what he believes is right.”

She’s coming to Boston on Friday to make the official announcement.

Pelosi and Capuano have been close colleagues since the Democrats won the majority in 2006. She handpicked Capuano to oversee Democrats’ transition to the majority. She also put him in charge of her Special Task Force on Ethics Enforcement, which resulted in a new independent ethics office — something Capuano talks a lot about on the campaign trail.

The most interesting thing about this endorsement is that Pelosi is probably the highest-profile woman who is NOT endorsing Attorney General Martha Coakley.
