New Englanders are mourning the loss of two of their own who were killed in Afghanistan's Helmand Province this week.

The Department of Defense confirmed 21-year-old Pfc. Eric Currier of Londonderry, N. H., was killed by a sniper Wednesday.

Currier was born in Lowell, Mass., and spent many childhood summers on Plum Island.

Twenty-year-old Pfc. Kyle Coutu, a native of Rhode Island, died on Thursday. His family said he enlisted one week after graduating from high school in Pawtucket, R.I., last June.

Both men were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, which is now clearing the Taliban out of Marjah in Helmand Province.
