Construction Work To Be Suspended For Long Weekend

Massachusetts transportation officials say they will suspend all construction work on major roadways during Memorial Day weekend.

No construction work will be done from noon Friday through early Tuesday because of the heavy traffic expected over the holiday weekend.

Officials are urging travelers to avoid driving during peak traffic times, usually between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., on Friday and Monday.

The Massachusetts Turnpike is expected to be especially jammed at the I-84 interchange at Exit 9 in Sturbridge on Friday and at Exit 11A, I-495, which handles cars headed south to Cape Cod and north to New Hampshire and Maine.

The state is urging drivers to sign up for the new 511 Traveler Information Service, which offers personalized travel information alerts.
