New Apps Provide Arrival Countdown For MBTA Buses

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is helping commuters answer their age-old question: When will the next bus be here?

Software developers have taken GPS information provided by the MBTA and written a series of cellphone applications allowing commuters to determine precisely when the next bus will arrive at a particular stop.

Gov. Deval Patrick and MBTA General Manager Richard Davey announced Thursday the information is now available for all 187 bus route serving 47 Massachusetts cities and towns.

They say the apps will take the guesswork out of the daily commute for thousands.

And it comes at no cost to the state.

It provided the raw information, but the developers produced the applications on their own. They are now available for download through the T's Web site.
