Experts To Offer FY2012 Mass. Revenue Predictions

Fiscal experts are set to offer their best guesses on how much Massachusetts will collect in taxes for the 2012 financial year.

Tuesday’s State House hearing is a first step on what could be another difficult budget-writing process as the state grapples with the aftereffects of the recession.

Among those scheduled to testify are Massachusetts Revenue Commissioner Navjeet Bal and local economists.

The hearing will help House and Senate leaders and Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration come up with what’s known as a consensus revenue figure for the fiscal year that starts next July.

That revenue figure is critical as the administration and each chamber writes their budget proposals.

The state has already collected more than $500 million over the current fiscal year’s estimates.

This program aired on December 14, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
