Ex-Boston City Councilor Turner To Begin Prison Term

Former Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner is about to lose his freedom. Turner is due to report to federal prison Friday to serve a 3-year sentence for taking a $1,000 bribe.

The 70-year-old Turner was convicted in October of taking the bribe from a businessman who was cooperating with the FBI. He was also convicted of lying to the FBI.

Turner testified that he didn't remember his meeting with the businessman, which was secretly captured on FBI video.

Turner, a longtime community activist, was expelled from the City Council after his conviction.

Prosecutors would not say what prison Turner is headed to, but a website run by his supporters says he will serve his time at the Hazelton Federal Prison in Bruceton Mills, W. Va.
