Boston Teacher Wins Praise From White House

A Boston teacher is being praised by the White House as being among the best educators in the nation.

Boston school officials say Wai Chin Ng, a fifth grade science teacher at Josiah Quincy School in Chinatown, will travel to the White House later this month to formally receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Ng, 41, says he's looking forward to meeting President Obama, as well as 84 other educators from across the country who will also be receiving the honor.

"I'm hoping to get some ideas and things to bring back to our district and also to share with them and what we have been doing and I guess, how to improve education," Ng said.

Michael Flynn, a math teacher at Norris Elementary School in Southampton will also be awarded.

This program aired on May 6, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
