For Bruins Fans, Championship A Long Time Coming
Resume
The fans. They went crazy last night over the Bruins' win. But for Jonathan Slater, the B's have been a lifelong obsession.
He lives in Boston now but grew up in Needham, where he watched the games with his four brothers and father. He's been a Bruins season-ticket holder for many years and attended all of the playoff home games.
For Game 7 last night, he was at Jerry Remy's bar near Fenway Park. The atmosphere there was ecstatic.
"We were up four nothing, the place was crazy," Slater said, "a similar feeling of both wow, enthusiasm and excitement that was very special."
As the Bruins were sipping champagne out of the Stanley Cup in their locker room, Slater had some champagne of his own. Slater was 10 years old when the Bruins won the cup in 1970. For him, this win was different.
"This one I went to most playoff games, I watched every playoff game and if you are older than 10 years old you feel like you were going through it," Slater said. "We felt like we were going through it in a very different way. It was very exciting, it has been a long time."
Slater is planning to wear his custom tailored shirt with the Bruins logo which he wore throughout the playoffs to the victory parade later this week.
