Mass. Food Stamp Use On The Rise

Despite the improving economy, new state figures show the number of people using food stamps in Massachusetts has nearly doubled, compared to four years ago.

Julia Kehoe, the commissioner of the state Department of Transitional Assistance, says some of the increase is due to outreach.

"We'll continue to see more people seeking assistance, especially since we've really done a lot to streamline the processes, but the rate of increase has already started to slow down," she said.

Kehoe says despite the uptick in people receiving food stamps, there are still many people eligible who don't receive them.
