The manhunt is over.

Reputed mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger is now in custody in California, after 16 years on the run.

Both Bulger, now 81, and his longtime girlfriend Catherine Greig were arrested in an oceanside apartment in Santa Monica late Wednesday night. The FBI says the arrest followed a tip prompted by FBI-driven publicity this week about Greig.

The FBI says both Bulger and Greig are scheduled to appear in federal court in downtown Los Angeles Thursday. He is wanted in connection with 19 murders.

Los Angeles Times reporter Andrew Blankstein was on the scene when the story broke. He said the people living near Bulger were very surprised by the news.

This program aired on June 23, 2011.
