Mayor Declares Heat Advisory For Boston

Temperatures in Boston are expected to break 90 on Wednesday, but the forecast is for even hotter and more humid weather Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service is warning that temperatures could be in the 95-100 degree range on Thursday and Friday. And the heat index, which factors in humidity, may reach 104. The weather service says we won't get a break from the heat and the humidity until Sunday.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has opened cooling centers throughout the city and public pools will stay open until 9 p.m. for the next few days.

Menino says people should stay inside if they can.

"We will have additional emergency medical service ambulances around the city available to help folks if they need it," the mayor said. "Also we're in touch with the senior citizens of our city by calling them, knocking on their doors."

Somerville also opened cooling centers and Cambridge will open one Thursday.
