Lowe's Of Haverhill Closes, 100 People Laid Off

A handful of Lowe’s Home Improvement stores have closed in the region.

About 100 employees at the Lowe’s in Haverhill were told Sunday night their store was closing immediately and they would receive 60 days severance, according to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune. On Monday morning a phone message greets customers:

Thank you for calling Lowe’s of Haverill, Massachusetts. We’re sorry, but this location is now permanently closed. Please visit our location in Salem, New Hampshire.

That store is seven miles away, opened less than a year ago and charges no sales tax.

Another store in Manchester, New Hampshire, and one in Maine have also closed.
