Discussion: Opera's Viability In Boston
PlayBoston's classical music community was shaken last month when Opera Boston, the smaller of the city's two professional opera companies, abruptly ceased operations, citing an insurmountable budget deficit.
On Tuesday, the surviving Boston Lyric Opera presented a panel discussion on the viability of opera in Boston, moderated by Radio Boston's Adam Ragusea. Panelists included:
- Esther Nelson of the Boston Lyric Opera
- Aliana de la Guardia of Guerilla Opera
- Sharon Daniels of the Boston University Opera Institute
- Gil Rose, artistic director of Opera Boston, founder of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project
The discussion took place at the Boston Public Library’s Rabb Lecture Hall. Click on Listen Now.
This program aired on January 24, 2012.
