Newton residents are looking for answers in the case of local teacher David Ettlinger, who has been charged with possession of child pornography. Some 100 people, mainly parents, aired their concerns in a community meeting at Newton North High School Tuesday night. Among them: Christina Hennessey, who has a son in kindergarten.

"My son really trusts teachers. I'm having a hard time trying to explain to him how to really trust teachers, because this man has now broken trust for all teachers, I believe," Hennessey said.

Ettlinger, 34, was arrested last week. He's charged with indecent assault and possession of child pornography. He has taught in the Newton district since 2000, for most those years as a second grade teacher at the Underwood Elementary School.

David Fleishman, the superintendent of Newton schools who ran Tuesday night's meeting, joined Morning Edition Wednesday to discuss the community's reaction to Ettlinger's charges.

This program aired on January 25, 2012.
