Police Investigate Fatal Shooting Of BU Student

Update 4/22: Yesterday, police identified the victim as Kanagala Seshadri Rao. This morning, BU Today published a remembrance of "Sesh," a native of India.

There's no word from police on possible suspects or a possible motive for the killing.

Update at 5:15 p.m.: Boston Police say the victim was 24 years old.

Update at 2 p.m.: BU Today reports that the shooting victim, whose name has not yet been released, was a student at the Boston University Graduate School of Management.

“Our prayers go out to the family and friends of the student,” BU President Robert Brown told the school community. “We are all deeply saddened by his death.”

Brown said the shooting "appears to be an isolated incident."

Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore told BU Today that the university is working to increase police patrols in the Allston neighborhood.

Post as of 12:15 p.m.:

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Boston University graduate student in Allston, the university has confirmed.

A Boston Police spokeswoman said city officers responded to 139 Allston St. in Allston just after 2:30 a.m. today and found a male victim on the street suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the head and leg. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been preliminarily identified, but authorities are waiting to notify the family before releasing his name.

Police offered no word on possible suspects.
