Nuke Workers Set Strike Deadline

This article is more than 11 years old.

Union workers at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant are threatening to strike on May 15 unless they get a new contract.

Members of the Utility Workers Union of America Local 369 say they are far apart from plant ownership, Louisiana-based Entergy Corp., on key health care, safety, and staffing issues.

On Friday, members voted overwhelmingly to authorize leadership to call a strike if a new deal is not worked out.

The labor dispute comes at a difficult time for Entergy. The company is pushing to renew its license at Pilgrim, which is set to expire in June.

The plant would be allowed to operate through 2032 under a license renewal plan recommended by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Entergy says they are continuing talks to resolve the dispute.
