Tierney Releases 6 Years Of Tax Returns

U.S. Rep. John Tierney has released six years of tax returns ahead of the first debate — Thursday afternoon — in the state's 6th Congressional District race.

A Tierney spokeswoman said the records show none of the $200,000 federal prosecutors say his wife Patrice received from her brother's illegal gambling business was reported.

Tierney has said the money was a gift and Patrice Tierney's lawyer Donald Stern said she was never charged with anything related to her own finances or income tax.

Patrice Tierney was sentenced to 30 days in prison last year after pleading guilty to helping file false tax returns for her fugitive brother Robert Eremian.

Tierney, a Democrat, is facing off against former Republican state Sen. Richard Tisei.

The Boston Globe reported Tisei paid no federal income taxes in 2006 or 2008 due to business losses.

This program aired on September 27, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
