Fall River Mayor Makes Appeal To Kraft For Revolution Stadium

Citing the city's "strong soccer culture" and locations suitable for development, Fall River Mayor William Flanagan appealed Tuesday to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to consider building a new stadium for the New England Revolution in Fall River.

In a letter to Kraft, Flanagan said he was confident that Fall River could beat any incentive program offered by other cities or towns interested in becoming the home to the soccer franchise that currently plays at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Flanagan invited Kraft to Fall River for a tour, pitching its proximity to I-195, Rte. 24, I-95 and I-495.

"With a largely Portuguese population, soccer is a heavily watched and played sport in our City," Flanagan wrote. "We also have one of the largest community colleges in the state as well as a university of Massachusetts satellite campus located within our City."

The Boston Globe reported in late September that Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo is trying to acquire the Wonderland Greyhound Park property as part of a plan to bring the Revolution to Revere.

The Somerville Journal has also reported that the city has been in informal talks about building a stadium for the Revolution in that city.
