Suffolk University's new president says he has a new vision for the school.

James McCarthy, who will be inaugurated as the university's ninth president Tuesday morning in Faneuil Hall, says the school needs a stronger focus on career readiness and affordable, online courses.

McCarthy also says he wants to take advantage of the university's downtown Boston location and strengthen partnerships with neighbors on Beacon Hill.

Before joining Suffolk, McCarthy served for five years as provost and senior vice president at Baruch College in New York City.

McCarthy joined WBUR's Morning Edition Tuesday to discuss his plans for the school.
