Mass. Loses 1,100 Jobs In Nov., Unemployment Rate Holds At 6.6 Percent

Massachusetts lost more than one thousand jobs in November, but the state's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.6 percent, according to a report released Thursday by the Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The preliminary estimate of 1,100 jobs lost last month comes on the heels of a revised gain of 11,900 jobs in October. An earlier report estimated the state gained 7,900 jobs during the month.

Massachusetts remains below the national unemployment rate, which fell to a four-year low of 7.7 percent in November. But the state jobless rate has climbed by more than half a point since June.

State officials point out that Massachusetts has picked up more than 46,000 private sector jobs in the past 12 months, and the unemployment rate is 0.4 percent lower than it was at this time a year ago.
