Legislative leaders are saying they need to take a careful look at which of Gov. Deval Patrick's newly proposed transportation projects (PDF) are worth pursuing.

The plan calls for expanding rail service, a 10-year plan to fix highway infrastructure, paying for regional transit systems, and closing the MBTA deficit.

Patrick is calling for about $1 billion a year in new revenues to pay for it. Possible revenue sources include hikes in the income, gas and sales taxes, additional tolls, fees on driving per mile, or fees on car emissions.

To talk about the plan, Patrick joined Morning Edition Tuesday.

This program aired on January 15, 2013.
