Markey: GOP Should Agree To 'People's Pledge' Deal

Democratic Congressman Edward Markey is calling on Republican candidates in the special U.S. Senate election to agree to limit outside political ads.

Markey and fellow Democratic candidate U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch have agreed to a so-called "people's pledge" to discourage radio, television and Internet ads by outside groups. The deal also applies to political mailings.

One Republican candidate, Norfolk state Rep. Daniel Winslow, has said he'd welcome "positive" help from outside groups.

Other Republican Senate hopefuls include Cohasset businessman and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez and former congressional candidate Sean Bielat. Both have filed statements of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

Former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan is also weighing a run on the Republican side.

Former Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth agreed to a similar ad deal last year.
