Rep. Kennedy Files Bill To Honor Peace Corps

Freshman U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III has filed his first bill as a member of Congress, and it's one that has a personal and family connection.

The Massachusetts Democrat introduced legislation that would authorize a nonprofit foundation to establish in Washington a commemorative work in honor of the Peace Corps.

Kennedy's great-uncle, President John F. Kennedy, created the Peace Corps in 1961 and more than 210,000 Americans have since served in the Corps in developing countries including Congressman Kennedy, who was a volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 2004-2006.

He says if the bill is passed the Peace Corps Commemorative Foundation would be responsible for any and all costs associated with the work.
