Late-Season Snowstorm Expected To Hit Mass.

Spring arrives this week, but forecasters say at least one more significant winter storm is headed toward Massachusetts.

A winter storm warning is in effect for much of Massachusetts from 9 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts the snow will be "moderate to heavy at times" with 5-8 inches forecast for Greater Boston and at least 10 inches for northern Worcester County and the Berkshires.

Additionally, the weather service says "up to an inch of sleet is possible on top of the snow, especially from the [Massachusetts Turnpike] southward."

The weather service warns of "major impacts expected for the Tuesday morning commute."

Due to the possibility of school closings and delays, the Massachusetts Department of Education has postponed the MCAS ELA Composition test that was scheduled to be administered Tuesday. The department says all schools, even those unaffected by the storm, must wait until Monday, March 25, to administer the exam.

Local emergency management officials say they're preparing for the possibility of flooding, but with high tide not expected to be astronomically high, the weather service says the risk of coastal flooding and beach erosion is low.
