Dem. House Leader Pelosi To Visit Boston

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is heading to Boston to mark the 20th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Pelosi will join with union leaders and Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano on Monday to celebrate the federal law that guarantees American workers protected time off to care for loved ones.

The 1993 law offers 12 weeks of unpaid leave, which workers can use to care for a new baby, sick family member or to recover from an illness.

The law applies to workers hired by companies with 50 or more employees, who work more than 1,250 hours a year and who have been on the job for at least a year.

Labor activists say the law still leaves out more than half of the workforce. They are pushing for measures they say would toughen the law.
