Northampton Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Arson Spree

A Northampton man charged with setting a series of fires in the city including one that killed an elderly man and his adult son has pleaded guilty to arson and manslaughter charges mid-trial.

Anthony Baye pleaded guilty Monday in Hampden Superior Court, as the second day of testimony in his trial was getting started.

He had been charged with murder for the December 2009 deaths of 81-year-old World War II veteran Paul Yeskie Sr. and his son, 39-year-old Paul Yeskie Jr., but pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of manslaughter for each death.

The 28-year-old Baye is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday. The prosecution is recommending 19 to 20 years in prison on each manslaughter conviction.
