Obama To Visit Boston Next Week For Markey

Almost two months after visiting Boston to help the city heal after the deadly Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama will be back in the city next Wednesday to campaign for Congressman Edward Markey, according the Markey campaign.

Markey is running against Republican Gabriel Gomez in the June 25 special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Secretary of State John Kerry.

A spokesman for Markey said he could not yet confirm details of the presidential visit.

Though the White House has been on the defensive in recent weeks concerning controversies swirling around the IRS and the Justice Department, Obama continues to be a popular figure in Massachusetts, where registered Democrats outnumber Republicans three to one.

A poll conducted June 1 through June 2 and released Tuesday by New England College showed Obama with an approval rating of 57 percent among Massachusetts voters.

This program aired on June 4, 2013. The audio for this program is not available.
