Police in Boston are investigating a fatal late-night shooting near Copley Square.

Officers received a call for a person shot at 553 Boylston St. just after 11 p.m. Thursday. There, they located a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced deceased at Boston Medical Center.

Police have not yet released the victim’s name or age.

There have been no arrests but police do not believe it was a random shooting.

"It's shocking to have someone shot in one of our busiest business districts," Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told WBUR. "There's a drug connection to this homicide. So, we think we're on the right track to solving it."

A man wearing a blue Hawaiian shirt was seen fleeing the scene.

Police are looking at surveillance video from businesses along the busy thoroughfare.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact homicide detectives at 617-343-5619. People can also submit information anonymously at 1-800-494-TIPS, or by texting the word “tip” to CRIME (27463).
