Somerville Teen Held For Alleged Camp Sexual Assaults

A Somerville teenager charged with sexually assaulting three younger students at a sports camp in the Berkshires has been ordered held pending a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to the public.

A dangerousness hearing for 17-year-old Galileo Mondol was scheduled for Friday at an appearance Tuesday in district court in Pittsfield.

Prosecutors say Mondol and two 16-year-old students whose names were not made public used a broom to rape one freshman and attempt to rape two others.

Prosecutors say the assaults occurred Aug. 25 at Camp Lenox in Otis, where Somerville High School was holding a team-building retreat for the soccer team.

Mondol faces several charges including aggravated child rape.

Mondol's lawyer called his client's detention "outrageous," and his client actually tried to stop the alleged assaults.
