Golar Richie Endorses Walsh In Mayor's Race

The former mayoral candidate who finished third in the preliminary threw her support to state Rep. Marty Walsh on Saturday in his general election race against City Councilor John Connolly.

Charlotte Golar Richie said she sought and won tangible commitments from Walsh to invest in neighborhoods like Dorchester and Mattapan and to push issues important to communities of color.

"Issues that my supporters, the 15,500 who voted for me, care about," said Golar Richie.

She also said Walsh's experience on Beacon Hill will help the city.

"When he goes up there on issues like local aid, when he goes up there to try to get funding for our schools, to deal with transportation issues, he is going to have the ear and I believe he will have the support of not just members of the Boston delegation, as important as that is, but members far and wide across the commonwealth," Richie said at a Saturday morning press conference announcing her endorsement.

Walsh emphasized his goal to continue improving the city.

"Endorsements are great, we've all said it, but endorsements are only as good as the work that happens."

The city's communities of color are a potentially decisive force in the election, and Connolly acknowledged he would have liked Golar Richie's support.

But, like Walsh, Connolly is promising that at least half of his cabinet will be drawn from those communities of color.

"We have a depth of support in communities of color across all of Boston that's put us where we are today," Connolly said. "And I think it's going to put us in the winner's circle on Nov. 5."
