Democrat Wolf Dropping Campaign For Mass. Governor

Democratic state Sen. Dan Wolf is abandoning his campaign for governor.

Wolf said in a statement Monday that his ongoing dispute with the state Ethics Commission left him no option.

Wolf helped create the Cape Air airline 25 years ago, and the regional airline has contracts at Logan International Airport in Boston.

The commission initially ruled Wolf had to leave the Senate or abandon his gubernatorial bid if he didn't relinquish his 23 percent ownership stake in Cape Air and pull the airline out of Logan.

Last month, the commission said it would consider changes that could have allowed Wolf to continue his campaign. But Wolf said a meeting last week made it clear the commission wouldn't rule soon, making it impossible to continue.

The Harwich Democrat said he hopes to retain his Senate seat.
