Mass. Receives $10.4 Million For Restoration Projects

Massachusetts has received $10.4 million in federal funding for four ecological restoration projects stemming from last year's Superstorm Sandy.

The projects are all located on Cape Cod or southeastern Massachusetts.

One would remove two aging mill dams on the Mill River in Taunton. Another restores nearly 12 acres at the Round Hill Salt Marsh in Dartmouth.

The Parkers River Restoration project in Yarmouth will replace a tidally restrictive bridge and two fish passage structures.

The fourth project involves restoring the Muddy Creek Wetland in Chatham and Harwich.

The state's environmental secretary, Rick Sullivan, said the projects will help protect the coasts from massive storms and also create jobs and boost the local economy.
