Fundraising Site For Bostonian Whose Car Was Flipped In Sox Celebration Hits Goal

A crowdfunding website raising money for the car owner whose vehicle was flipped over in Wednesday night's World Series celebration has already accumulated more than $3,400 — about $1,000 more than its initial goal.

Bobby O'Neill, of Brookline, says he never met Chad Duncan. But when he saw photographs of Red Sox fans damaging Duncan's car, O'Neill says he had to help out.

"I've had enough destruction in the city," O'Neill told WBUR's Daniel Guzman, "and it kind of put me off that people who purport to be Bostonians and Red Sox fans and whatever would do something like this."

The GoFundMe page, titled "Boston's Better Than That," exceeded O'Neill's goal of $2,500 — the estimate Duncan gave The Boston Globe for various car costs — in one day.

On the website Friday, O'Neill said: "As for the surplus, I'm planning on giving it to the One Fund as I think it captures the same spirit in which these donations were given."
