Gov. Patrick: Casino Law Working As It Should

This article is more than 5 years old.

Gov. Deval Patrick insists the state's casino gambling law is working exactly as it was intended and that he is not surprised by several recent votes against proposed casinos.

The latest was in Milford, where voters on Tuesday soundly rejected a bid by Foxwoods to develop a $1 billion casino.

Patrick signed the 2011 law that authorized up to three regional resort casinos and one slots parlor. He said Wednesday that he had no second thoughts about the measure and does not want to see it repealed.

He said the law was designed to allow local residents to decide whether they wanted casinos in their communities.

A group that is petitioning to repeal the law has until the end of the day Wednesday to submit signatures to city and town clerks.
