More than 1,000 mourners on Thursday attended a funeral for a fallen Marine from Abington.

Sgt. Daniel Vasselian, 27, was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan two days before Christmas.

The 2004 graduate of Abington High School had celebrated his fourth wedding anniversary just four days before his death.

The funeral Mass was held Thursday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Abington, followed by a burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Abington residents had lined local streets Tuesday in tribute as Vasselian's body arrived and was escorted through the town.
