Green Line Train Derails Near Kenmore Station

The first car of a MBTA Green Line train bound for Riverside crashed into a tunnel wall after derailing between Kenmore and Fenway stations Monday afternoon, leaving at at least seven people with minor injuries.

Transit Police Supt. Joe O'Connor says the passengers injured were on both the train that derailed and another train that had to quickly stop to avoid a collision.

"Everyone had non-life threatening injuries and we're trying to determine what occurred," O'Connor said.

According to T spokesman Joe Pesaturo, all passengers were evacuated from the train and out of the tunnel shortly after the derailment, which was reported around 12:20 p.m.

T officials say shuttle buses will replace service for the remainder of the day on the C branch between Kenmore and St. Marys Street, and the D branch between Kenmore and Fenway.

The derailment occurred in an area where the tracks on the C and D branches intersect, Pesaturo said.
