Bus Crashes Into Guardrail Over Mass. Pike

A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus crashed through a guardrail over the Massachusetts Pike on Sunday, injuring eight people, including the operator, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. in Newton, said Kelly Smith, a spokeswoman for the MBTA. The bus is partially hanging over the Pike, but the Newton Fire Department has secured it, state police said.

Eleven people were on the bus, and eight were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Smith said. Three passengers declined medical treatment.

Crews are on the scene to help remove the bus, Smith said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

State police say the right lane on Interstate 90 has been closed because of falling debris. The Exit 17 on-ramp is also closed.
