One Child Dead, One Seriously Injured After Hit-And-Run In Mattapan

An 8-year-old girl is dead and a 12-year-old boy is in the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries after a hit-and-run in Mattapan Saturday night, Boston police said.

The two children were riding a bicycle on West Seldon Street around 11 p.m. when the car hit them, police said. The driver was seen running from the scene after crashing his vehicle into a parked car.

After searching for the driver, police said they arrested 45-year-old James Horton of Dorchester Sunday morning. He faces several criminal charges when he is arraigned on Monday.
