Fire Marshal: Fatal Mendon Fire Was Intentionally Set

Authorities say a house fire that killed a Mendon man and his dog appears to have been deliberately set.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan tells WBZ-AM that "all accidental scenarios have been eliminated, and the fire was intentionally set." He said Saturday he could not provide more details on the cause because of the ongoing investigation.

The fire broke out at the home on Sandra Circle at about 4:45 p.m. Friday.

The Worcester district attorney's office said the man lived alone at the house.

Neighbors told The Milford Daily News the dog often sat in the large bay windows where the flames were most intense.

Firefighters got the dog out of the house, and tried to revive it with CPR, but were unsuccessful.
