Operator Of MBTA Commuter Rail Service Adds Staff

The company that runs the MBTA's commuter rail service is adding staff to improve service and fare collection.

Keolis Commuter Services says 64 new workers will be added to trains by the end of the year.

The conductors and assistant conductors will be responsible for collecting fares, assisting passengers as they board and exit, ensuring safety and improving on-time performance. Seventeen new workers have already started and 17 more will start Sept. 12.

The service handles 127,000 passengers per weekday.

General manager Gerald Francis says the new hires are "part of our commitment to providing a safe and comfortable experience, while also ensuring that we operate on schedule and everyone who boards a commuter rail train pays their fare."
