Family Sues Boston Bar After Man Is Told To Leave, Drowns

The family of a 24-year-old man has brought a wrongful death lawsuit against a Boston bar after the man drunkenly wandered into Boston Harbor last year.

The Boston Globe reports the lawsuit claims Eric Munsell was forced to leave Market bar and lounge in February 2014 after a bouncer saw him stumbling and bumping into other people. It says temperatures were below freezing at the time and that Munsell was not allowed to retrieve his coat or tell his friends he was leaving.

The suit says no one at the bar, including the bouncer, attempted to help avoid or mitigate Munsell's unsafe situation despite his visibly impaired state.

The bar says the city's licensing board found no violations for failing to provide aid to an intoxicated person.
