Attleboro Bans Use Of Lawn Sprinklers Due To Drought

The city of Attleboro is banning the use of lawn sprinklers after more than a month of dry weather.

Mayor Kevin Dumas says declining water supplies and lack of rainfall prompted Friday's decision. The ban is scheduled to take effect 9 a.m. Monday.

The city's water department says it is about 7 inches below the typical amount of rainfall it usually receives.

Residents can still water lawns with a hand-held hose.

Dumas says information is available on the city's website and through social media. He says the city is going to monitor the situation.

Those who violate the ban face a $25 fine for the first offense and a $50 fine for the second. After that fines jump to $200 for all offenses after that.
