Walsh Taps Nonprofit Head As Interim Superintendent Of Boston Schools

The head of a school improvement nonprofit is in line to be the interim Boston school superintendent.

Mayor Marty Walsh and School Committee Chairman Michael Loconto on Wednesday night announced Laura Perille would take over from outgoing Superintendent Tommy Chang.

The school committee votes on her selection Monday.

Perille, 52, leads the nonprofit EdVestors, a nonprofit that works to improve education for Boston students.

In a joint statement, Walsh and Loconto called Perille a "longtime school improvement advocate, BPS parent and an experienced school system partner."

"Laura is a proven leader with a strong track record of getting things done and she has the drive, skills and expertise to achieve the positive results we need for our students," they wrote.

Perille said she's committed to moving the school system forward.

"I understand both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in making the Boston Public Schools the best it can be," she said in a statement.

Chang announced last week he was leaving the district after three years as superintendent.
