Youngest Kids In Class May Be Diagnosed More Often With ADHD Than Older Classmates

Doctors are diagnosing kids with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, at higher rates today than a decade ago. But new research says some of those diagnoses may be a mistake. A study from the New England Journal of Medicine shows that the youngest children in their classes are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than their older classmates.

Timothy Layton, an assistant professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School, is the study's main author. He joined Morning Edition to talk about it.
