New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner has defended the state's first-in-the-nation presidential primaries status for 42 years in office. But backlash over his support for President Trump from a heavily Democratic state legislature in New Hampshire could lead to the end of that run. The legislature votes Wednesday to decide between Gardner, and his challenger Colin Van Ostern.

James Pindell covers politics for the Boston Globe and joined Morning Edition to talk about the race and Wednesday vote.

This segment aired on December 3, 2018.
