Domestic Assault Activists To Gather At Mass. State House

Domestic assault activists are planning to gather at the Massachusetts State House this week to talk to lawmakers about their legislative priorities.

Jane Doe Inc., the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, want the state to embrace new practices to address domestic violence and close existing gaps in services and prevention.

The briefing is set for Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Several bills aimed at curbing domestic violence have already been filed at the Statehouse, including proposals to expand violence and sexual assault education for certain occupations and increase fair housing protections for domestic violence survivors.

Democratic Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is backing a bill that would require medical professionals to ask patients about the presence of guns in their homes to help identify risks of suicide or domestic violence.
