After nearly a month on strike, the union representing public bus drivers on Martha's Vineyard says it's come to a tentative agreement with the Vineyard Transit Authority.

The union voted back in April to authorize a strike over what it said were unfair labor practices and a refusal by the bus authority to pay the drivers living wages.

“This is a victory for VTA bus drivers and all working families on our island,” said VTA driver Richard Townes in a statement. “The strike worked. We didn’t get everything we deserve, but we got a lot closer to what we need and saw significant improvement from the company’s last offer in early June.”

The Vineyard Transit Authority and its bus drivers union say they've reached a contract deal that includes pay raises for the next three years.

Workers will vote on the contract on Sunday.
